Decades before the flooding of Hochatown into what would become Broken Bow Lake in 1970, there was the Mountain Fork River. This fertile, winding stream was the heart of a valley rich in game and timber. To help maintain the majestic river and surrounding forest, a game preserve was established in the 1920's. A few years later, a CCC Camp was formed for forest management, to carve out roads, and trails. Their monumental efforts laid the foundation for what would become a mecca for family outdoor recreation: Beavers Bend State Park.
